Where Craftsmanship Meets Passion
The Story Behind the Stitches
In the quiet lanes of Ambala, where the hum of sewing machines once echoed through small tailor shops, a dream began to take shape. This is the story of Sukh Kaur, the heart and soul behind Racks & Blocks—a journey stitched with perseverance, creativity, and an unshakable love for craftsmanship.
From Thread to Trend: Sukh’s Journey
Sukh grew up surrounded by fabric scraps, needles, and the rhythmic whir of her grandmother’s sewing machine. By age 12, she was crafting her own clothes, turning discarded textiles into wearable art. For over two decades, Sukh worked as a tailor, mastering every stitch and fold, but she always dreamed of creating something uniquely her own.
In 2020, during the pandemic, Sukh noticed a shift. People weren’t just buying clothes—they were seeking identity and self-expression. A simple cap wasn’t just an accessory; it was a statement. Armed with her sewing machine, a vision, and relentless grit, Sukh began designing caps that blended timeless style with modern flair.
The Humble Beginnings
In July 2022, with savings from years of tailoring and a small loan from her family, Sukh launched Racks & Blocks from her home workshop. The name? A nod to her roots—“Racks” for the shelves holding her fabric rolls, and “Blocks” for the pattern templates that brought her designs to life.
The first collection was modest: six cap designs, each hand-stitched by Sukh herself. She delivered orders on her scooter, often working late into the night to meet deadlines. Word spread quickly. Customers loved the perfect fit, bold patterns, and Sukh’s personal touch—a handwritten thank-you note in every package.
Why Caps?
For Sukh, caps are more than accessories. They’re canvas for creativity and tools of confidence. “A great cap doesn’t just shade your eyes—it tells the world who you are,” she says. Every Racks & Blocks design reflects this philosophy:
- Quality: Durable fabrics, reinforced stitching, and adjustable fits.
- Style: Bold colors, minimalist designs, and patterns inspired by India’s vibrant culture.
- Comfort: Breathable materials that suit scorching summers and monsoon showers.
Our Mission
Today, Racks & Blocks is more than a brand—it’s a community. Sukh still oversees every design, but she’s no longer alone. Her team of local artisans, many of them women from her neighborhood, handcraft each cap with the same care Sukh poured into her first collection.
We’re committed to:
- Empowering Local Talent: 80% of our team are women artisans earning fair wages.
- Sustainable Practices: Recycled packaging and eco-friendly dyes.
- Customer Joy: Caps that make you smile, backed by hassle-free service.
A Note from Sukh
"A cap might seem like a small thing, but sometimes, it’s the smallest details that spark the biggest transformations. At Racks & Blocks, we believe that style isn’t just about what you wear—it’s about how it makes you feel. A well-crafted cap can empower you to walk taller, speak louder, and own your uniqueness.
Our journey began with a simple idea: to create accessories that do more than just accessorize. Every stitch, fabric choice, and design is a step toward building confidence—for you, for our artisans, and for the community we serve.
When you choose Racks & Blocks, you’re not just buying a cap. You’re supporting fair wages for skilled women artisans, sustainable practices that protect our planet, and scholarships for their children. It’s proof that small steps, taken together, can create waves of change.
Thank you for being part of this movement. Here’s to the power of one small accessory to redefine what’s possible."
